I have the honour to acknowledge the

receipt of your confidential despatch of 15th

January, 1940, on the subject of the salaries

of Mistresses in the Education Department on promotion to the posts of Senior Mistress and

of Senior Mistresses on promotion to the post

of Principal, Belilios Public School.

I note your approval of my proposals and confirm the correctness of the assumption stated at the end of the second paragraph of

your despatch.

It has been brought to my notice,

however, that there are at present in the service

three Senior Mistresses who do not fall within the

scope of my recommendation that all Senior Mistresses serving on the old terms, which include the privilege of reckoning house allowance for pension purposes, should, if promoted to the post of Principal, Belilios Public School, enter the new scale approved for that

appointment at £810. At the end of 1938 it was decided that any officer who had attained, prior to 1st January, 1939, the rank of Senior Mistress,
